Nastaran Shahbazi

Born 1982 in Tehran, Iran and lives and works in Paris, France.

Memory and motion are important characteristics in Shahbazi's painting, drawing on her experience moving between Tehran, Paris, and Hong Kong before finally setting back in Paris. The characters featured in her work are often anonymous, born in her sketches of physical locations and experiences, taking root in her final compositions and residing in these personal and cinematic scenes. Shahbazi's paintings offer the viewer several paths, leaving one the freedom to create a personal and intimate relationship with the canvas.

Shahbazi's work first debuted in the US at The Hole in January 2023, as part of the group show The Midnight Hour, curated by Scroll. She had her first US solo exhibition, To The Butterflies, with Scroll in Fall 2023.
